Are you passionate about entomology, taxonomy, and natural science research? The Natural Science Museum in Durban is seeking a dedicated and experienced Curator (Entomology) to contribute to the development and management of its scientific collections. This permanent position offers a dynamic opportunity to apply academic expertise, conduct research, and collaborate with international scholars while preserving and expanding the museum’s entomology collection.

About the Role

As a Curator (Entomology), you will oversee the acquisition, research, and exhibition of entomological specimens. This role involves scientific research, collection management, and dissemination of knowledge, making it ideal for individuals passionate about insect biodiversity, systematics, and taxonomy.

Key Responsibilities

Collection Management – Acquire, restore, and exhibit specimens following museum and scientific standards.
Research & Collaboration – Conduct field studies, validate findings, and collaborate with local and international researchers.
Data Analysis & Interpretation – Study habitats, ecological value, and threats to various insect species.
Knowledge Dissemination – Publish research, contribute to educational programs, and engage with the scientific community.
Personnel & Task Coordination – Supervise teams, manage projects, and uphold museum operational standards.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

📌 Master of Science (NQF Level 9) in:

  • Zoology (with a focus on Entomology, Taxonomy, or Systematics)

📌 Additional Requirements:

  • Registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 4 Years of Relevant Experience
  • Computer Literacy

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

📌 Doctor of Philosophy (NQF Level 10) in:

  • Entomology
  • Taxonomy
  • Systematics

📌 Additional Experience:

  • 5+ years of research and curation experience
  • Published research in scientific journals
