The Department of Local Government within the Western Cape Government is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual for the position of Community Development Worker in Mfuleni. This full-time, permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the community by helping bridge the gap between the government and the people of Mfuleni.
Role Overview
As a Community Development Worker, the successful candidate will play a key role in liaising, coordinating, and mobilizing the community to address their needs. They will facilitate communication between the community and government at the national, provincial, and local levels, helping to bring government services closer to the people.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist and Inform Communities: Help the community members in Mfuleni access essential services provided by various government departments.
- Identify Community Needs: Identify and communicate the needs of local communities to the relevant government structures.
- Promote Networking and Collaboration: Encourage the growth of networks and support local community workers to improve service delivery.
- Reporting: Maintain up-to-date documentation on progress, actions taken, issues attended to, and outcomes.
- Stay Informed: Keep up with the services offered by government and ensure the community is aware of available resources and processes for accessing them.
Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 6 months of relevant experience in community work or a similar field.
Desirable Qualifications
- Community Development Learnership Certificate.
- A valid Code B or higher driving license (Note: Individuals with disabilities who are unable to drive but have reasonable access to transport may also apply).
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate should have:
- Knowledge of applicable policies, legislation, guidelines, and best practices in the public service sector.
- An understanding of community structures and the functioning of local communities in the Western Cape.
- Strong facilitation skills for public participation in policy making and service delivery.
- Proficiency in project organization, interpersonal communication, report writing, and MS Office.
- Ability to manage tasks independently while adhering to deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Remuneration
The salary for this position is R 255,450 per annum (Salary Level 6). In addition, qualifying employees may be entitled to service benefits, such as medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension-fund contributions, in accordance with applicable collective agreements.
