The Department of Local Government within the Western Cape Government is offering a permanent position for a Community Development Worker in Riversdale (Hessequa). Job Purpose

The role of the Community Development Worker is pivotal in liaising, coordinating, and mobilizing communities in Riversdale (Hessequa). The chosen candidate will help identify community needs, inform residents about government services, and assist in connecting them to the relevant structures at the national, provincial, and local levels. This role helps bring government closer to the people by making essential services more accessible to those in need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Support: Assist communities in accessing government services and resources.
  • Needs Identification: Identify the needs of local communities and communicate them to appropriate government bodies.
  • Promotion of Networks: Enhance local community networks and support existing community workers to improve service delivery.
  • Reporting: Prepare and maintain reports, detailing progress, issues, actions, and outcomes.
  • Government Services Knowledge: Keep informed about the services provided by various government structures and the processes to access these services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience in community development or a related field.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Community Development Learnership Certificate.
  • A valid Code B or higher driving license (Note: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities but have reasonable access to transport are encouraged to apply).

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of public service policies, legislation, guidelines, and best practices.
  • A strong understanding of the communities in the Western Cape and their needs.
  • Facilitation skills for promoting public participation in policymaking and service delivery.
  • Project organization skills and the ability to manage tasks effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Report writing skills for documenting progress and outcomes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer literacy.
  • Excellent self-management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Remuneration

This position offers a salary of R 255,450 per annum (Salary Level 6). In addition, employees may be entitled to service benefits such as medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension contributions in accordance with collective agreements or applicable prescripts.
