The Department of the Premier in the Western Cape Government invites applications for the position of Chief Network Technologist. This permanent position, located in Cape Town (CBD), offers a great opportunity for qualified and skilled professionals to manage and maintain network infrastructure for the provincial government.

Job Purpose

The Chief Network Technologist will be responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of network systems within the department. The role also involves managing a team of professionals responsible for various network services, ensuring efficient infrastructure deployment and smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities

Network Design and Implementation: Plan, design, develop, and implement advanced network solutions, including Wired & Wireless Networks, VOIP architecture, and corporate IPT solutions.
Infrastructure Maintenance: Ensure the smooth operation of server and storage infrastructure systems, overseeing server environments such as Microsoft and Linux.
ICT Policy and Strategy Development: Contribute to the development and planning of provincial ICT policies related to network infrastructure and ICT security.
Team and Service Provider Management: Lead and manage a team of professionals and liaise with client departments and service providers for effective service delivery.
Project Reporting: Ensure that all programmes and projects are executed with appropriate documentation, timely reporting, and alignment with approved systems.

Minimum Requirements

📌 Educational Qualifications:
✔ A 3-year tertiary qualification (National Diploma/B-Degree or higher) in IT or a related field.

📌 Experience:
✔ A minimum of 3 years’ experience in network infrastructure management.

📌 Additional Requirements:
Valid (Code B or higher) driving license.

Key Competencies

🔹 Strong knowledge of networking technologies, including LAN, WAN, Mobile Data Communications, and Wireless Networks.
🔹 Familiarity with industry vendors such as Cisco, Huawei, Mikrotik, and Microsoft/Linux server environments.
🔹 Expertise in server and storage systems, VOIP architecture, and corporate IPT solutions.
🔹 PC and notebook troubleshooting skills, as well as MS Office literacy.
🔹 Strong communication, planning, and coordination skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
🔹 Conflict resolution and decision-making abilities are essential.

Remuneration

💰 The salary package for this role ranges from R 444,036 to R 532,602 per annum (Salary Level 9).

Note: Service benefits such as medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension fund contributions are included in accordance with collective agreements and applicable prescripts.
