The Department of the Premier in the Western Cape Government is seeking a dynamic and qualified professional for the position of Assistant Director: People Analytics. This permanent position is based in Cape Town (CBD) and offers an exciting opportunity to optimize people management, workforce planning, and organizational performance through advanced data analytics.

Job Purpose

The Assistant Director: People Analytics will be responsible for leveraging data analytics to drive insights and support decision-making in workforce management and organizational strategy. This role involves managing data pipelines, producing actionable insights, and creating reports and visualizations that support informed decision-making within the Western Cape Government.

Key Responsibilities

Data Pipeline Management: Establish and maintain data pipelines, ensuring efficient extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes across multiple systems while ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance.
People Analytics & Insights: Apply people analytics to identify trends and generate insights on employee performance, engagement, and retention, supporting decision-making with data-driven recommendations.
Stakeholder Engagement: Lead strategic advisory services, aligning data insights with organizational goals, fostering a data-driven culture, and providing training on data interpretation to stakeholders.
Reporting & Dashboard Development: Manage the development of interactive dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and automate reporting to provide real-time insights and decision support for leadership.
Project & Team Leadership: Oversee projects, manage operations and employees, track progress, and mentor a high-performing team to meet business objectives.

Minimum Requirements

📌 Educational Qualifications:
✔ A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems, or Business Administration.

📌 Experience:
✔ A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a data analysis or people analytics role, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity involving project management and team mentorship.

📌 Additional Recommendations:
✔ An Honours Degree is highly recommended.
✔ A valid Code B driver’s license is also required (applicants with disabilities affecting driving may also apply, provided they have reasonable access to transport).

Key Competencies

🔹 Knowledge & Expertise:
✔ In-depth knowledge of people analytics, workforce planning, HR metrics, and how data impacts organizational strategy.
✔ Expertise in data governance, quality assurance, and compliance with privacy regulations such as POPIA and GDPR.

🔹 Skills:
✔ Strong skills in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
✔ Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL for data processing and automation.
✔ Experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and effective communication to diverse audiences.

Remuneration

💰 The salary for this position is R 444,036 – R 532,602 per annum (Salary Level 9), with additional service benefits including medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension contributions for qualifying employees.
