eThekwini Municipality is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Accountant within the Corporate Accounts department, focusing on Accounts Payable. This permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial success and efficiency of the municipality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of the accounts payable section.
  • Oversee administrative and control processes for the branch.
  • Prepare and compile quarterly supplier reports as per legislative requirements, and submit them to Exco and the Province.
  • Investigate unposted batches and resolve any issues related to vouchered invoices, ensuring timely payments to suppliers.
  • Take appropriate action regarding receipted purchases that have not been vouchered.
  • Act as the signing authority for accounts payable documents and approvals.
  • Release payments to suppliers promptly.
  • Conduct special investigations when necessary, including resolving audit queries and addressing overdue accounts.
  • Manage and resolve supplier queries and disputes.

Competencies Required:

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial management.
  • Expertise in budgeting, costing, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • High-level communication skills and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team and drive positive outcomes.

Essential Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification (NQF Level 7) in Accounting or an equivalent field with Financial Accounting as a major subject.
  • A valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 4 years of relevant experience in a similar capacity.

Additional Information:

  • The role requires the National Treasury MFMA minimum competency qualification (NQF6) or the ability to obtain it within a specified period after the appointment.

Remuneration: R433,825.56 to R563,104.80 per annum
