SABC News is seeking a dynamic and innovative Brand Manager to join its Corporate Affairs and Marketing division. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Marketing for SABC News and will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing strategies that drive brand awareness and engagement across the news platform. The Brand Manager will be responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of SABC News’ brand and public relations efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the overall network strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Brand Strategy Development and Execution
- Lead the development and execution of the SABC News brand strategy in line with the broader network objectives.
- Oversee the creation and evaluation of national marketing campaigns and public relations strategies, aimed at elevating the SABC News platform’s presence in the market.
- Campaign and Operational Efficiency
- Develop and manage a variety of national campaigns for SABC News, ensuring the effectiveness of each in driving platform goals.
- Create and implement an influencer management strategy that focuses on building and maintaining relationships with key influencers to boost the platform’s visibility.
- Provide expert advice and strategic recommendations to the Executive team on brand positioning, marketing, and PR strategies.
- Oversee the production of marketing and communication materials, ensuring consistency with the brand message.
- Public Relations and Media Relations
- Cultivate strong relationships with media, bloggers, and social influencers to amplify the reach of SABC News programming.
- Regularly write and distribute media content, including press releases, articles, and blog posts, that promote key programs, celebrities, and initiatives within SABC News.
- Edit and proofread all internal and external communications, ensuring high-quality content for publications such as magazines, newsletters, and press releases.
- Financial and Budget Management
- Manage the SABC News marketing budget, ensuring that financial resources are effectively allocated to meet objectives while maintaining cost discipline.
- Implement corrective measures where necessary to avoid wasteful expenditure and ensure financial accountability.
- Governance and Risk Management
- Monitor and manage operational risks and ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal policies, and legislation.
- Conduct internal audits to identify gaps and implement risk management plans to safeguard the organization’s interests.
- Ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is adhered to.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Strengthen relationships with external stakeholders, including industry partners, key influencers, and media contacts.
- Address customer complaints and queries promptly, maintaining high standards of service and aligning with SLAs.
- Operational Efficiency and Internal Controls
- Champion operational improvements by establishing policies and initiatives that drive service excellence and foster continuous improvement within the marketing team.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Marketing, Communications, or a related field (NQF Level 6/7).
- Experience: At least 4 years of experience in Brand and Public Relations management.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven experience in brand marketing, PR, and events management.
- Strong budget management skills with the ability to plan for future scenarios.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and report writing.
- Understanding of the broadcasting landscape and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of PFMA (Public Finance Management Act) and national treasury regulations.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
