Job Overview

- Minimum Qualification: Master’s Degree (NQF7) in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Horticulture, or Plant Production
- Experience Required: 8 years (post-qualification) in plant breeding
- Location: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape
- Field: Agriculture/Agro-Allied, Research
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee breeding programs and evaluation of tropical/subtropical crops
- Manage field operations, including staff and research block activities
- Allocate project budgets and resources efficiently
- Compile progress reports and present findings to stakeholders
- Implement advanced breeding technologies and identify research opportunities
- Supervise technical and support staff
- Develop training materials and collaborate with industry partners
- Produce scientific publications and present research outcomes
Requirements
- Proven experience managing agricultural research fields/blocks
- Expertise in plant breeding and horticultural production
- Budget and project management skills
- Strategic planning and national-level collaboration experience
- Registration with a scientific/professional body (advantageous)
- Advanced computer literacy
- Valid EB driver’s license
