Position Details:
- Job Type: Full-Time
- Required Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 8) in Natural/Environmental Science or related field
- Experience: 6+ years in environmental management or conservation
- Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
- Department: Environmental Conservation & Safety
Key Requirements:
- Expertise in environmental policy implementation (e.g., Biodiversity Act, Marine Protected Areas regulations)
- Experience in marine conservation, biodiversity planning, and compliance enforcement
- Proficiency in project management, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement
- Knowledge of public sector procedures and international conservation frameworks
Core Responsibilities:
- Design and expand Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to protect marine ecosystems.
- Develop policies and management plans for MPAs and Other Effective Conservation Measures (OECMs).
- Monitor compliance with national and international conservation targets (e.g., National Biodiversity Strategy).
- Facilitate stakeholder collaboration to strengthen public-private partnerships in conservation.
- Conduct assessments and reporting using tools like the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT).
