eThekwini Municipality, based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Artisan (Plumber) Level II to join its Customer Services Department in the Connections division. This permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to work on technical plumbing tasks, including installation, repairs, and maintenance of water supply and control systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and integrity of water-related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities: As an Artisan (Plumber) Level II, you will be responsible for:

  • Organizing materials and providing guidance on installation and maintenance work sequences.
  • Ensuring safety measures are followed, particularly when working around voltage cables and optic fiber cables.
  • Monitoring the condition of vehicles, equipment, tools, and work personnel, addressing any deviations or safety breaches.
  • Completing necessary documentation, including time sheets, progress reports, and vehicle checks.
  • Coordinating troubleshooting and fault-finding activities related to water supply disruptions.
  • Overseeing the repair and restoration of water systems to ensure their optimal functioning.

Essential Requirements: To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • A trade-tested Artisan (Plumber) qualification.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Basic First Aid and Safety certification (to be completed within 6-12 months after appointment).

Preferred Requirements: Candidates with four years of relevant post-qualification experience will be given preference.

Additional Information:

  • Working conditions may require you to work in all weather, outside normal working hours, and during emergencies or planned overtime.
  • You will need to be on standby and may encounter unfavorable site conditions, such as waterlogged excavations.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Remuneration ranges between R311,261.52 and R404,033.88 per annum.
  • Housing subsidy, leave, medical aid, pension fund, and a 13th cheque are included as part of the benefits package.
