Transnet Corporate Centre is offering an exciting career opportunity for the position of Head of Supply Chain Management Compliance. This permanent role, based in Johannesburg, reports directly to the Group Chief Procurement Officer and is crucial for shaping and driving Transnet’s governance, risk, and compliance strategy across its supply chain operations.

Position Purpose

The Head of Supply Chain Management Compliance is responsible for developing and leading the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) framework across the group. This role will oversee the implementation and monitoring of essential controls within Supply Chain Management (SCM) and ensure that all risk management and governance practices are aligned with strategic goals.

Key duties include:

  • Developing and maintaining SCM governance policies, risk management functions, and compliance initiatives.
  • Ensuring adherence to the Combined Assurance Framework for Supply Chain Management.
  • Tracking performance against governance and compliance KPIs, and addressing risks and issues as they arise.
  • Managing the communication of procurement-related governance, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and compliance is maintained.

Position Outputs

  1. Leadership of the SCM Compliance Team: Lead and inspire a high-performing team of specialists to drive adherence to procurement policies and procedures, ensuring they are communicated effectively throughout the organization.
  2. Research and Analysis: Encourage continual research and development in SCM compliance best practices. Oversee the performance management of governance and compliance, and track areas for improvement through detailed dashboards and KPI monitoring.
  3. Enablement and Support: Provide expertise in driving the adoption of SCM compliance across various stakeholders, facilitating the identification of risks, and ensuring that compliance mandates are upheld across the procurement value chain.
  4. Risk Management: Support risk strategy planning and oversee governance forums to ensure compliance efforts are effective and aligned with Transnet’s objectives.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency in compliance matters, and advocating for continuous improvements in governance and risk management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, LLB/B. Com Law, Logistics, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Postgraduate qualification such as an MBA, MBL, or M. Com is essential.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in a large enterprise with complex business processes, including 10-12 years at a senior management level.
  • Expertise in PFMA, PPPFA, and public sector procurement.
  • MCIPS certification and CIPS membership are advantageous.
  • Proven ability to work across functional teams to drive successful delivery and compliance.
