About the Role

As a Museum Officer, you will play a key role in the curation, documentation, and research of historical materials while assisting with public engagement. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in history, anthropology, archaeology, or heritage studies, offering a chance to contribute to museum operations and exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities

Collection Management – Accession, store, and catalog new historical materials.
Public Enquiries & Research – Assist visitors, conduct research, and authenticate donations.
Curatorial Assistance – Provide artefacts for exhibitions, curate collections, and maintain archives.
Administrative & Clerical Support – Perform general museum-related clerical tasks.
Educational Outreach – Assist in developing educational programs and museum events.
Data & Records Maintenance – Manage filing systems and digital image retrieval programs.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

📌 Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in:

  • Anthropology
  • Sociology
  • History
  • Heritage Studies
  • Archaeology
  • Or any related and equivalent qualification

📌 Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Computer Literacy

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

📌 Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Heritage or Museum Studies (or a related field)
📌 3 years of relevant experience
