Key Responsibilities:

As a Retail Operations Manager, your role will be integral to the success and growth of SPAR retailers. Your key duties will include:

• Building Strong Relationships: Establish and maintain close working relationships with SPAR retailers, offering guidance and support to help them grow their businesses effectively.
• Retail Growth & Profitability: Provide advice and assistance to retailers aimed at improving profitability and cash flow, focusing on areas of improvement.
• Performance Analysis: Analyze store performance data and use this information to consult with retailers on strategies to address underperformance and identify potential opportunities for growth.
• Store Standards & Audits: Ensure that stores uphold SPAR’s high standards, conducting audits to assess compliance with hygiene, safety, and store specifications.
• Action Plans & Forecasts: Compile detailed action plans, cash flow forecasts, and feasibility reports to support decision-making and effective operations.
• Store Audits & Reports: Perform structured store visits and produce comprehensive written reports for each store’s performance and development.
• Stocktake Implementation: Demonstrate proficiency in stocktake management and implementation, ensuring accurate inventory tracking and reporting.
• Project Management: Lead and manage retail projects aimed at enhancing the customer experience and improving operational efficiency.
• Store Openings & Re-launches: Provide support during store openings and re-launches, assisting retailers with the process to ensure smooth operations.
• Order Management: Oversee retail orders, including both Distribution Centre (DC) and drop shipment purchases, to ensure stock is available and efficiently managed.
• Risk Management: Manage the risk associated with bad debt, using proactive strategies to mitigate financial risks to the business.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience:

• Matric (High School Diploma) is a must.
• A business-related tertiary qualification will be advantageous.
• At least 5 years of experience in retail management, preferably at a managerial level, or equivalent experience as a store manager at a major grocery chain or similar retail experience.
• Strong public speaking skills to effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
• A valid driver’s license is essential, as this role involves significant travel.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, planning, organizational, and decision-making skills are required to excel in this position.
