The Western Cape Government’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism is looking for a dynamic and skilled individual to fill the role of Assistant Director: Tourism Sector. This is a permanent position based in Cape Town’s CBD, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of tourism products and experiences in the province.
About the Role
As the Assistant Director: Tourism Sector, you will play a key role in coordinating, facilitating, and developing tourism-related projects. You will be responsible for stakeholder engagement, project management, policy analysis, and data management, ensuring that tourism initiatives align with industry trends and government regulations.
Key Responsibilities
✔ Stakeholder Engagement – Establish and maintain relationships with key tourism stakeholders, industry bodies, and government entities.
✔ Project Management – Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of tourism projects and programs.
✔ Policy and Research – Conduct research on tourism trends, track sector developments, and provide strategic insights.
✔ Meeting Coordination & Reporting – Organize meetings, minute-taking, and preparation of reports to support decision-making.
✔ Public Assistance & Enquiries – Handle tourism-related public enquiries and provide informational support.
✔ Data & Information Management – Maintain accurate records of tourism initiatives, stakeholder engagements, and project outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
📌 National Diploma or B-Degree (or higher) in Commerce, Tourism, Law, or Public Administration
📌 Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project management related to tourism, economic development, public administration, or law
📌 Valid Code B driver’s license (People with disabilities who have reasonable access to transport may also apply)
📌 Strong administrative and organizational skills
Preferred Experience & Skills
✅ Experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and event coordination
✅ Ability to research and track tourism trends
✅ Knowledge of tourism policies, including the Tourism Second Amendment Act (3 of 2014)
✅ Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
✅ Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
