eThekwini Municipality is looking for a dedicated and hardworking Electrical Assistant to join their Construction Works Central division. Based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, this permanent role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in supporting electrical infrastructure construction, general maintenance, and repair work. The successful candidate will work alongside skilled artisans and supervisors in maintaining essential electrical systems across the municipality.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Electrical Assistant, your main responsibilities will include:
- Operating equipment and performing general laboring tasks as directed by the Artisan (Electrician).
- Preparing tools and materials for work tasks and ensuring all equipment is ready for use.
- Loading and towing trailers, compressors, and other equipment as necessary for daily tasks.
- Checking the operating condition of equipment, connecting, and starting machinery according to standard procedures.
- Performing physical installations and maintenance of electrical equipment, including meters and ready boards.
- Inspecting work sites for illegal connections and suspected tampering, in collaboration with the supervisor.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, ensuring that tools and materials are properly stored.

Essential Requirements:
- Completion of secondary education (Grade 12 or equivalent).
- At least 6 months of relevant experience in a similar role.
Preferred Requirements:
- 1 year of relevant experience is preferred, but not essential.
Working Conditions:
- Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, 5 days a week.
- Be prepared to work overtime, as needed, to meet service requirements.
- You will be required to work in all weather conditions, especially during breakdowns or emergencies.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: R152,793.84 – R198,344.52 per annum.
- Housing Subsidy, Leave, Medical Aid, Pension Fund.
- 13th Cheque available.
