Transnet Freight Rail is seeking a skilled and proactive IT Support Analyst to join its Polokwane team on a non-permanent basis. This role focuses on providing comprehensive technical support for hardware, software, networking, and multimedia systems across multiple Transnet sites. Role Overview
The IT Support Analyst will serve as the primary point of contact for technical assistance, ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems and supporting business continuity. This role involves installing, diagnosing, and upgrading hardware and software while maintaining the security and reliability of Transnet’s IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
🖥️ IT Infrastructure Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Ensure network, internet, and mail services remain operational.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues for end-users.
- Provide basic server configurations, including file sharing and printer access.
- Manage data backups for laptops, mobile devices, and small systems.
🔧 Technical Support & Equipment Management
- Deliver first-line support for printers, multimedia systems, and video conferencing equipment.
- Set up and configure new hardware and software for internal and external clients.
- Manage third-party service providers handling outsourced IT functions.
- Oversee the inventory of IT equipment and ensure software license compliance.
📊 Project Management & System Optimization
- Execute minor ICT-related projects for various business units.
- Monitor disk usage, mailbox sizes, and overall desktop capacity.
- Perform quality assurance testing on new hardware and software solutions.
- Implement and enforce ICT security protocols across all supported systems.
📈 Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
- Communicate system downtimes and updates to end-users.
- Maintain and update job logs, service requests, and project documentation.
- Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
Required Qualifications & Experience
✅ Educational Background:
- 3-Year Diploma or Advanced Diploma (NQF 6/7) in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields.
- A+ and N+ Certifications (Mandatory).
- ITIL Foundation Certification (Advantageous).
✅ Professional Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in desktop support, specializing in Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, or Asus environments.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and maintain multi-device systems, including printers, tablets, and mobile devices.
✅ Additional Requirements:
- Driver’s License (Code 08) and own transport (preferred).
- Willingness to travel to other Transnet sites and bordering countries when required.
