Role Purpose

The successful candidate will provide specialized legal advice to senior officials, including Members of the Executive and Heads of Departments. This involves drafting legal opinions, negotiating contracts, and ensuring legal compliance within the governance and economic sectors.

Minimum Requirements

  • LLB Degree
  • Admission as an Advocate or Attorney
  • Experience Levels:
    • LP 7: Minimum 5 years of post-qualification legal experience
    • LP 8: Minimum 9 years of post-qualification legal experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Advisory Services:
    • Provide formal legal opinions on substantive matters to senior government officials.
    • Offer legal guidance on Constitutional and Administrative Law issues affecting governance and economic policies.
  • Contract Negotiation & Drafting:
    • Draft, review, and edit contracts of significant importance to the administration.
    • Ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation in government contracts.
  • Litigation & Legal Correspondence:
    • Collaborate with the Litigation Unit regarding major legal opinions, contracts, and legal disputes.
    • Liaise with the State Attorney’s Office on cases requiring senior legal counsel.
  • Legal Documentation & Compliance:
    • Prepare legal-technical documents, correspondence, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Manage allocated cases and legal matters effectively, maintaining accurate records and electronic files.

Remuneration & Benefits

  • LP 7: R 884,268 per annum (all-inclusive package)
  • LP 8: R 1,037,820 per annum (all-inclusive package)
