eThekwini Municipality is offering a permanent position for a First Aid Officer within the Occupational Health Department. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about providing medical support in a dynamic work environment. Job Purpose: The First Aid Officer will be responsible for responding to injuries and emergency medical cases, providing first aid, and coordinating first aid training for eThekwini Municipality employees. This role ensures that the municipality’s workforce receives timely and effective medical support while maintaining a high level of readiness for any emergency situation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and attend to calls regarding injuries on duty (IOD) and emergency medical cases, providing immediate first aid and care.
  • Consult with clinical superiors and relevant medical professionals regarding issues related to IODs.
  • Liaise with employees, supervisors, and other stakeholders regarding injury documentation and medical follow-up.
  • Maintain, order, and supply first aid materials and equipment to the relevant units, ensuring that all supplies are well-stocked and in proper condition.
  • Ensure that all first aid and emergency equipment is regularly checked, maintained, and in good working order.
  • Complete and manage necessary documentation, including compensation forms, resumption of duty reports, and medical reports.
  • Act as the first line of contact for injured employees and their supervisors, following up on their recovery process.
  • Update and maintain accurate records related to first aid and injury incidents.
  • Coordinate and deliver training sessions for First Aiders, ensuring that employees are adequately trained and up-to-date.
  • Plan and conduct refresher courses for employees to keep their skills current and effective.

Essential Requirements: Candidates must meet the following essential qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent qualification.
  • A valid First Aid Certificate at Level 3.
  • A valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a first aid or healthcare role.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy to manage records and documentation.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent, along with a Basic Life Support Certificate.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
