Transnet Freight Rail is looking for an experienced IT Support Analyst to join  its Johannesburg team on a non-permanent basis. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to manage and optimize IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations for end-users across multiple Transnet sites.

Role Overview

As an IT Support Analyst, you will be the first point of contact for technical support, responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT systems. The position requires a multifaceted IT professional capable of handling hardware, software, networking, security solutions, and disaster recovery planning.


Key Responsibilities

🔹 IT Infrastructure & Systems Maintenance

  • Ensure network, internet, and email services are up and running.
  • Support end-users with server access and troubleshooting.
  • Manage data backups for laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.
  • Implement and enforce ICT security measures.

🔹 End-User Technical Support

  • Serve as the primary contact for IT assistance.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Assist in server configurations, file sharing, and printer management.
  • Provide quality assurance testing for new hardware and software.

🔹 Hardware & Software Management

  • Configure, repair, and maintain printers, projectors, teleconferencing devices, and digital signage systems.
  • Ensure availability of critical IT resources by managing software licenses and hardware inventory.

🔹 Networking & Remote Access

  • Support LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, mobile network (3G, APN) connectivity.
  • Set up remote access solutions for employees working off-site.
  • Coordinate and supervise external IT service providers.

🔹 Project Management & Compliance

  • Oversee small-scale IT projects and implementations.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance, risk management, and compliance policies.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background:

  • National Diploma or Advanced Diploma (NQF 6/7) in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • A+ and N+ Certifications (Mandatory).
  • ITIL Foundation Certification (Advantageous).

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in desktop support for brands like Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, or Asus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and networking domains.
  • Previous exposure to corporate IT environments preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Driver’s License (Code 08) & Own Transport (Preferred).
  • Willingness to travel to Transnet sites and potentially bordering countries.
