Job Description

The Animal Attendant will be responsible for the care and management of animals at the Onderstepoort facilities. Key responsibilities include:

• Feeding animals and providing clean drinking water.
• Removing waste daily and cleaning water troughs weekly.
• Daily cleaning of animal housing and outside pens.
• Assisting with herd management tasks such as ear tagging, dehorning, castration, vaccinations, blood sampling, and treatments.
• Conducting daily inspections of fences and assisting in repairing and erecting new ones.
• Making fire breaks and assisting with the control of veld fires.
• Performing garden maintenance services.
• Carrying out other ad hoc services within the facilities.

Requirements

• Matric / Senior Certificate.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Skills in handling small and large farm animals.
• Physical fitness to manage demanding work and the ability to work outdoors for long hours.
• Good communication skills and the ability to maintain working relationships with others.
• Adaptability to teamwork.
• Availability to work most weekends, public holidays, and during the Christmas recess.
• Capability to drive a tractor and load and offload bales and bags of pellets.
