Job Purpose:

The Business Compliance Advisor plays a critical role in providing expert guidance, offering advice, and supporting the processes that monitor compliance and resolve disputes effectively within eThekwini Municipality’s Arrears Management department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply established procedures to ensure compliance is maintained, while reporting on relevant processes.
  • Prepare legal arguments to defend the municipality’s rights and seek remedies for breaches of contractual obligations.
  • Interpret and communicate legal terminology, providing clear advice and explanations on policy directives.
  • Offer guidance on proposed actions, decisions, and strategies, ensuring that all actions comply with legal frameworks and effectively manage risks.
  • Oversee specific administrative tasks related to key performance indicators within the department.

Competencies:

  • Strong skills in written communication and legal drafting.
  • Excellent oral communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Knowledge of litigation management and dispute resolution processes.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build interpersonal relationships and maintain effective communication.
  • Service delivery orientation with an emphasis on action and resilience.

Essential Requirements:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7), such as LLB, BA, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Admitted Attorney status.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in computer use and applications.

Preferred Requirements:

  • No additional preferred qualifications or experience.
