Job Description

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) seeks a Research Technician for Analytical Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing analytical and diagnostic services, including but not limited to:

Analytical and Diagnostic Services:

  • Receive, register, perform final review of results, and report on analyses.
  • Invoicing on lab management system.
  • Client liaison and workflow organization to ensure samples are tested according to customer requests.
  • Develop, evaluate, validate, and implement test methods in the laboratory.
  • Implement and update technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform routine plant and soil analysis using a CHNS analyzer and other laboratory instruments.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and procedures used in the lab.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain and update lab records, including raw data, reports, and invoices.
  • Plan work activities as directed by the work schedule.
  • Train personnel and interns on different techniques.
  • Maintain a clean work area and facilities.

Quality Control:

  • Maintain the quality control system by following all QC procedures and SOPs.
  • Write and update methods and validation documents.
  • Monitor analytical standards and verify or calibrate equipment as required.

Laboratory Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations and supervise compliance in the laboratory.
  • Follow good housekeeping practices and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

Requirements

  • Education: National Diploma or degree in Analytical Chemistry.
  • Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in plant and soil analysis methods, particularly performing routine analysis on CHNS analyzers.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of processing and interpreting data from laboratory instruments is essential.
    • Registration with a relevant scientific body is advantageous.
    • Proficiency in computer literacy.
    • Strong communication and planning skills.
