Job Description

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is seeking a Researcher in Soil Science to provide strategic research direction for the Soil Science programme, ensuring alignment with the ARC’s Strategic Plan. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic research direction for the Soil Science programme.
  • Managing personnel effectively to maintain and strengthen expertise within the Soil Science discipline.
  • Securing funding and managing projects in agricultural and natural resource environments both nationally and internationally.
  • Acquiring and maintaining research equipment, computers, peripherals, and specialized software.
  • Monitoring and evaluating research and technology development projects while ensuring scientific quality standards are upheld.
  • Mentoring young scientists, technicians, and postgraduate students while working in a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Engaging in scientific networking at national and international levels.
  • Facilitating technology transfer.

Requirements

  • Education: PhD in Soil Science, Agronomy, or an equivalent field.
  • Experience:
    • Proven research background across various fields in Soil Science.
    • Experience in student supervision and mentoring.
    • Ability to conduct fieldwork and work with communities.
    • Willingness to travel away from home for extended periods.
  • Skills:
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Valid driver’s license (Code 08/EB).
    • Registration with SACNASP or evidence that registration could be obtained.
