Job Purpose

The Road Plant Operator will perform tasks related to the transportation of materials, equipment, and personnel to and from work sites, as well as the operation of heavy mechanical plants and specialized vehicles during roads and stormwater maintenance activities.

Key Responsibility Areas

• Preparation and Completion: Perform specific tasks at the Depot and worksite prior to and after completing allocated maintenance assignments.
• Communication: Communicate with the immediate superior to establish task details.
• Documentation: Complete internal transactional documentation and related forms.
• Operation of Machinery: Operate heavy specialized mechanical plants and vehicles during road and stormwater drainage maintenance activities.
• Material Control: Control the utilization of materials and manage the discharging/offloading of required quantities for repair or reconstruction work.

Essential Requirements

• Appropriate level of secondary education.
• Valid certification of competency in operating truck-mounted cranes and heavy plant.
• Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code C1).
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
• 3 years of relevant experience.
