A Senior Administration Officer position has opened within the Strategic Transport Planning department at eThekwini Municipality. This permanent role falls under the Transport Authority division and reports directly to the Senior Manager (Transport Planning). Job Purpose:

The Senior Administration Officer will be responsible for assisting with legal tasks related to transportation planning. This role requires providing advice on relevant legislation, liaising with legal advisors, drafting contracts, and supporting the legal department with documentation and amendments. The officer will also stay informed about the latest developments in transportation law and ensure that all activities comply with applicable legal standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advice: Offer guidance on relevant and applicable legislation in the transportation field, ensuring that operations are aligned with legal requirements.
  • Legal Opinions: Obtain legal opinions from eThekwini’s municipal legal advisor, ensuring that all legal matters are appropriately handled.
  • Contract Drafting: Examine and draft contracts and related documents. Assist staff in drafting these contracts as needed.
  • Meetings and Coordination: Attend meetings as directed by the Senior Manager, representing the department and coordinating necessary actions.
  • Attorney Liaison: Act as the point of contact between the transport authority and appointed attorneys, ensuring smooth communication and resolution of legal issues.
  • Legislation Monitoring: Keep up-to-date with changes in national and provincial legislation, providing feedback and comments on proposed amendments that affect the transportation sector.
  • Legal Document Amendments: Assist the legal department with drafting amendments to existing documents, ensuring compliance and accuracy.

Essential Requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications: A Diploma (NQF Level 6) or equivalent in an administrative field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in legal or administrative roles, particularly in the public sector or transportation.
  • Skills: Computer literacy is essential, with proficiency in using relevant software tools.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Higher Qualifications: A Degree (NQF Level 7) or equivalent in an administrative field is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a similar role, ideally with a focus on legal or transport administration.

Remuneration:

The salary for this position ranges from R369,445.64 to R476,964.12 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
