A Principal Clerk position is available at the Regional Customer Care Centre within the Southern Area division of the Customer Services department at eThekwini Municipality. This permanent role falls under the Governance and International Relations Cluster and reports to the Supervisor (Customer Care).
Job Purpose:
The principal responsibility of the Principal Clerk is to deliver customer service and related administrative duties in line with the Batho Pele principles and the department’s vision. The role is pivotal in supporting the municipality’s services to its customers by providing efficient and professional assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Interaction: Handle customer inquiries, provide information, and address complaints concerning various municipal services.
- Permit and Licensing Applications: Process applications for vending permits from street traders and business licenses for food handling, entertainment, and hawking as outlined in the Business Licensing Act.
- Administrative Support: Perform general administrative tasks such as maintaining files, organizing literature, and ensuring that all relevant information is updated and easily accessible.
- Transactional Management: Complete a daily register to track all transactions and ensure proper management of records.
- Other Duties: Undertake any other related tasks as directed by the Supervisor (Customer Care) to ensure smooth operations within the department.

Essential Requirements:
- Educational Requirements: A minimum of Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience in an administrative or customer service role.
- Skills: Strong computer literacy.
Preferred Requirements:
- Qualifications: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) plus an Administrative Certificate.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a similar field is preferred.

Remuneration:
The annual salary for this position ranges from R218,077.44 to R283,086.84, depending on experience and qualifications.
