eThekwini Municipality is looking for a skilled and qualified Artisan (Electrician) to join its team. This is a permanent position, offering an exciting opportunity to work in the Construction Works Northern division under the Mv Lv Operations branch in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The successful candidate will report directly to the Superintendent (Electrical).

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform the construction, maintenance, operation, repair, and testing of electrical mains, apparatus, and ancillary equipment from low voltage to 33,000V.
• Carry out switching operations up to 11,000V, and work on live equipment up to 440V.
• Issue low voltage permits, conduct tests, and complete compliance certificates for electrical installations.
• Transport staff and equipment as required.
• Complete administrative functions such as submitting relevant paperwork before, during, and after work tasks.
• Ensure workplace safety and prevent accidents.
• Inspect electrical equipment in line with eThekwini Municipality’s SHE Management System.
• Provide specialist technical advice and guidance to new electricians and subordinates.
• Supervise, train, motivate, and discipline apprentices, trade workers, and other trainees.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements:

• Qualified electrician with an apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labour or a Trade Test Certificate.
• NTC2 or NCV3 in Electrical Engineering from a registered Further Education and Training College.
• Valid EB or EC1 (10) driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
• Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) or ability to obtain within 6 months if required.
• First Aid training or willingness to complete it within 6 months of appointment.
• Must pass a proficiency test to prove general knowledge in the relevant field.
• 2 years of relevant experience in the electrical industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years of relevant experience.
