eThekwini Municipality is currently seeking a Senior Administrator (Prosecutions & Court Processes) to join the Durban Metropolitan Police Services within the Licensing, Vehicle Testing, and Fines Processing Division. This is a permanent position based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, with a closing date for applications on February 21, 2025.
Job Purpose:
The Senior Administrator will oversee key performance areas related to traffic prosecutions, court processes, and disciplinary matters. The role involves ensuring compliance with relevant traffic laws and providing daily legal support to the division. The position also requires close collaboration with various legal and law enforcement authorities to maintain the effectiveness of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Traffic Prosecutions: The Senior Administrator will be responsible for managing traffic prosecutions across all regions. This includes updating legislation, interpreting changes, and ensuring that relevant amendments are communicated to Commanding Officers for implementation.
- Fines System Maintenance: Continuously update the fines system and monitor statutory changes to ensure that they are implemented according to legal requirements.
- Legal Compliance: Monitor the implementation of current legislation and identify any legal gaps. Ensure that corrective measures are taken when non-compliance is identified.
- Communication with Regional Commanders: Coordinate with Regional Commanders to address any changes in legislation affecting law enforcement. Provide correct statutory references and descriptions of offenses for proper implementation.
- Court Process Coordination: Prepare applications related to Admission of Guilt fine amounts, and discuss these matters with the Chief Magistrate or relevant district Magistrates. Assist with identifying legal document errors and recommend corrective actions.
- Disciplinary Support: Provide technical support in managing internal disciplinary and grievance matters, assisting various role-players within the department.
Competencies Required:
- Written Communication: Strong ability to draft clear, concise legal documents and reports.
- Attention to Detail: High level of precision in monitoring legal compliance and system updates.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues and implement solutions.
- Data Processing & Analysis: Proficient in analyzing legal data and ensuring the accuracy of legal documents.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with officials and other stakeholders.
- Teamwork & Action Orientation: Ability to work collaboratively and take decisive actions in a fast-paced environment.
- Learning Orientation: A commitment to staying up-to-date with legal changes and improving processes.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualifications: A Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Administration or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in legal administration or law enforcement.
- Skills: Valid driver’s license, computer literacy, and a solid understanding of traffic law enforcement systems and municipal bylaws.
Preferred Requirements:
- Education: A Degree (NQF Level 7) in Administration or a related field.
- Experience: At least 4 years of relevant experience in a similar role.

Remuneration:
The salary range for this position is between R367,445.64 and R476,964.12 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
