The Department of the Premier, Western Cape Government, is offering an exciting career opportunity for a Chief Psychometrist to join the Provincial Assessment Centre. This permanent position, based in Cape Town, seeks a qualified professional to lead the psychometric testing and assessment process while overseeing a team of psychometrists.
Job Purpose
As the Chief Psychometrist, you will play a pivotal role in providing psychometric testing services for the Provincial Assessment Centre. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the professional administration of various psychometric test batteries, providing expert advice on workplace assessments, and managing the work of team members.
Key Responsibilities
✔ Conduct psychometric testing and assessments, ensuring the proper administration of tests for competency assessments.
✔ Measure psychological functions, including cognitive, aptitude, interest, and personality for workplace development and selection.
✔ Provide feedback to clients based on psychometric assessment results.
✔ Design, manage, and evaluate psychological assessment procedures for diverse organizational settings.
✔ Contribute to the development of psychological tests and participate in the creation of policies regarding psychological assessments.
✔ Offer expert opinions and evidence related to test administration.
✔ Supervise and guide a team of psychometrists, manage team performance, workload, and ensure the efficiency of the Provincial Assessment Centre‘s operations.
Minimum Requirements
📌 Educational Qualification:
✔ Honours/4-year degree in Psychology or Industrial Psychology.
📌 Registration:
✔ Must be a registered Independent Psychometrist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) with a valid PMT number.
📌 Experience:
✔ 3+ years post-registration experience as a Psychometrist.
Desirable Requirements
📌 A Code 8 driving licence is recommended.

🔹 Knowledge of the Health Professions Act, Mental Health Care Act, and relevant psychometric testing standards.
🔹 Strong expertise in psychological assessment, project management, and communication skills.
🔹 Ability to apply professional judgment, analyze data, and present findings effectively.
🔹 Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
🔹 High level of computer literacy and project management skills.
Remuneration
💰 All-inclusive Salary Package: R 868,662 per annum (Grade 1, OSD as prescribed).
Note: The remuneration package includes service benefits such as medical assistance, housing assistance, and pension fund contributions, all in accordance with applicable policies.
