Minimum Requirements:
- Educational Qualification: National Diploma in Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations Management, or a related field (NQF Level 6).
- Experience: 3-4 years of relevant experience in a similar role or work environment.
- Skills: Strong understanding of media functions, good communication and writing skills, and proficient in coordinating media activities.
- Additional Requirements: A valid driver’s license.
Primary Function:
This role is vital in developing and managing media relations between the Office of the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) and the media. The Media Liaison Specialist will build and sustain a professional relationship between the MMC, the department, and various media outlets, ensuring transparency and effective communication.
Key Performance Areas:
- Develop and execute a communications/media strategy and action plan for the MMC.
- Organize press conferences, information sessions, and media interviews.
- Draft media statements and speeches for the MMC.
- Respond to media inquiries and ensure timely and accurate information flow.
- Foster media relationships and advocate the MMC’s portfolio and departmental activities.
- Participate in media forums and collaborate on communication strategies for the city.
- Coordinate communication priorities across various departments and stakeholders.

- Project management and event management skills.
- Ability to manage and motivate people, especially in high-pressure situations.
