Meteorological Technician Position – Calvania, Western Cape

Position Overview:

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) seeks a dedicated Meteorological Technician to join our team. This full-time role involves critical weather monitoring operations and maintaining service excellence in environmental observations.

Key Responsibilities:

Weather Observation:

• Conduct visual weather monitoring and prepare detailed reports
• Provide timely updates on significant weather changes
• Collect and verify data from automated weather stations
• Maintain observation equipment and infrastructure

Stakeholder Relations:

• Engage with clients according to operational plans
• Represent SAWS at regional meetings

Quality Assurance:

• Implement quality control procedures for all weather data
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
• Support internal audit processes

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics and Science
• Weather Observers certification
• Ability to obtain Aviation Meteorological Observation certification within 6 months
• Valid driver’s license (Code 08) or ability to obtain within 3 months
• Understanding of WMO/ICAO international standards
