Job Purpose

Manage the operational use of the declared road network to ensure compliance with mobility standards, legislative requirements, and effective utilization of road infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng/B.Sc. Eng) or equivalent
  • 3+ years post-qualification engineering experience
  • Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa)
  • Valid Code B driver’s license

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in public sector road infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with transport infrastructure planning and road network management
  • Proficiency in evaluating Traffic Impact Studies and Arterial Management Plans
  • Knowledge of land use planning and its impact on road systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain road use management strategies
  • Assess spatial planning impacts on road infrastructure
  • Review development proposals affecting road networks
  • Oversee the creation of Arterial Management Plans
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in transport planning
  • Supervise engineering teams and ensure compliance with standards
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, and reporting

Required Competencies

Technical Knowledge:

  • Traffic analysis and transport planning regulations (e.g., National Land Transport Act)
  • Road Access Management Guidelines and spatial planning principles

Skills:

  • Analytical thinking and data-driven decision-making
  • Project management and conflict resolution
  • Proficiency in MS Office and engineering software
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement
