Position Title:

Researcher/Associate Researcher – Plant Breeding (Fixed Term Contract)

Location:

Loskop Research Station, Groblersdal, Mpumalanga

Contract Type:

3-Year Fixed Term Contract

Minimum Requirements:

• PhD in Plant Breeding or related discipline
• 3+ years post-Masters research experience in plant breeding
• Proven expertise in classical plant breeding methods
• Experience with molecular breeding techniques (advantageous)
• Minimum 2 peer-reviewed publications in relevant field
• Valid driver’s license

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead national research projects on legume crop improvement
• Develop new breeding lines and manage germplasm resources
• Secure research funding through proposal development
• Manage project resources and research teams
• Mentor junior staff and students
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Essential Competencies:

• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Proven project management capabilities
• Ability to work in field and laboratory environments
• Team-oriented approach to problem solving
