Position Purpose

The Resident Dentist will assist in managing and supervising dental students while providing dental services aboard the Transnet-Phelophepa Health Care Train. Additionally, the role involves conducting oral screenings and education programs in rural schools across South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

– Oversee and supervise dental students in the clinic, maintaining professional and ethical standards.
– Manage the dental clinic in the absence of the Dental Clinic Manager.
– Coordinate with dental institutions and sponsors like Colgate Palmolive to ensure smooth operations.
– Handle needlestick injury reports, ensuring timely submission to relevant authorities.
– Implement and enforce infection control and occupational exposure policies.
– Perform surgical procedures, diagnose patients, and refer cases as needed.
– Supervise staff, including the Oral Hygienist and Dental Infection Control Nurse.
– Manage clinic assets, order supplies, and maintain accurate records.
– Monitor the school outreach program and compile monthly reports.

Qualifications and Experience

– BDS, BChD degree or equivalent.
– Current registration with the HPCSA.
– Minimum of 2 years of experience as a dentist.
– Strong communication, management, and financial skills.
