Scientist: Observations and Assurance

Position Details

Job Type: Full Time

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Sciences (Master’s preferred)

Experience: 2+ years in data quality assurance/scientific environment

Location: Centurion, Gauteng

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor surface observation network data availability
  • Ensure daily climate database updates
  • Collaborate with internal teams on data-related matters
  • Participate in quality assurance projects for weather observation systems
  • Engage in national/international climate observation programs
  • Support research initiatives and develop improved data processes
  • Maintain quality management systems and mentor junior staff

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Atmospheric Sciences or equivalent
  • Proven experience in data quality assurance
  • Skills in SQL, GIS (ArcGIS preferred), and statistical analysis
  • Weather Observer certification (advantageous)
  • Research/publication experience (preferred)
