The primary purpose of this role is to assist with budgeting, forecasting, and month-end and year-end reporting. Key Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure **accurate and timely financial reporting**. The key responsibilities are outlined below:
1. Month-End Journals and General Ledger Closure
The successful candidate will:
- Prepare and process all month-end journals, ensuring that the General Ledger (GL) closes within the specified timeframe.
- Conduct a comprehensive reconciliation of the Balance Sheet.
- Ensure expenses are allocated correctly and reallocated whenever necessary.
- Record balances on Balance Sheet reconciliations accurately and promptly per IFRS principles.
- Follow up, investigate, and clear any differences or reconciling items to minimize outstanding issues.
- Prepare the income tax calculation (provisional and annual) per AVI template and in accordance with the Tax Act.
2. Financial Reporting to AVI
The role requires the preparation of accurate and timely reports that adhere to AVI’s standards. Responsibilities include:
- Providing all necessary reports to AVI, including Day 4 Early Estimate, Day 8 Monthly Pack, Budget, Forecast, and year-end additional reporting, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
3. Statutory Obligations and External Reports
The Senior Accountant will be expected to prepare and submit statutory obligations as follows:
- VAT Returns: Submit monthly results accurately and on time under the rules defined by SARS.
- Annual Income Returns: Ensure submissions comply with SARS requirements to avoid penalties.
- Stats SA Reporting: Deliver turnover reporting as defined by Stats SA requirements.
4. Payment Validity and Accuracy
The role includes confirming the validity and accuracy of both local and foreign payments before release. Key actions include reviewing payments for correctness and ensuring they are released before bank cut-off times.
5. External Audit Support
Assisting with external audit requests is essential in this role. The Senior Accountant will resolve any issues or findings promptly to improve the internal control environment.
6. Ad Hoc Finance Projects
The accountant may also engage in various finance-related projects as they arise, offering a chance to improve departmental processes.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Newly qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) (SA).
- Completion of articles at one of the Big 4 audit firms is highly advantageous.
Additional Requirements
The following skills and knowledge are essential for the role:
- Understanding of Accounting Standards (IFRS).
- Familiarity with SAP systems.
- Knowledge of financial processes and internal control systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
