National Prosecuting Authority

Section 179(2) of the Constitution authorizes the National Prosecuting Authority to initiate criminal proceedings on behalf of the State and perform related judicial functions.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid right of appearance per Section 25(2) of NPA Act 32/1998
  • Demonstrated expertise in sexual offenses and domestic violence litigation
  • Proven track record in criminal prosecution and case management

Key Responsibilities

  • Prosecute complex sexual offense cases in specialized courts
  • Manage case progression through Criminal Justice System (target: 9-month resolution)
  • Coordinate Thuthuzela Care Centre case management and operations
  • Conduct witness preparation and courtroom proceedings
  • Supervise investigative processes and evidence collection
  • Develop prosecutorial strategies for improved conviction rates
  • Facilitate interdepartmental collaboration with justice stakeholders
