Position Overview:
The Desktop Support Engineer will be responsible for providing technical assistance to end-users, ensuring optimal performance of information technology equipment across Transnet sites. This role involves installation, diagnosis, repair, and upgrading of hardware and software systems, disaster recovery planning, and providing solutions for business continuity, security, and communication systems. The role also includes providing first-line support for multimedia, networking, video conferencing, and various ICT-related functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure uptime and reliability of network, internet, and connectivity services.
  • Use hardware and software tools for efficient business operations.
  • Support end-users’ access to servers and troubleshoot basic issues.
  • Manage backups for laptops, iPads, and mobile devices.
  • Assist with server configurations for file sharing and printer setups.
  • Implement ICT security measures and support technical issues resolution.
  • Procure repairs and replacements of ICT equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Manage system downtime communication and offer IT tips to users.
  • Maintain and test video conferencing and multimedia equipment.
  • Oversee minor ICT project execution and support third-party functions.
  • Ensure ICT loan equipment availability and assist with capacity planning.
  • Manage and maintain ICT inventories and monitor third-party staff activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-Year Diploma or National/Advanced Diploma in Information Systems or related field (NQF 6/7).
  • A+ and N+ Certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in desktop support, including working with Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, or Asus PCs.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification is advantageous.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license (Code 08) and own transport.
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa and occasionally to neighboring countries.
