Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for a skilled Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to distribute goods to various clients. The ideal candidate will meet the minimum requirements, perform the duties, and take on the responsibilities outlined below.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 literacy level (verbal and numerical literacy)
  • Code EC driver’s license with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
  • 3 years of experience driving an Ultra Heavy Vehicle
  • Must be 25 years of age or older
  • Willingness to work weekends and public holidays
  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques
  • Familiarity with the function and location of vehicle components
  • Understanding of emergency and defect reporting procedures
  • Ability to perform vehicle inspections and operate a fire extinguisher
  • Focus on maximizing vehicle cost-effectiveness and efficiency
  • Understanding of vehicle loading techniques

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare the vehicle for trips and operate ultra-heavy duty vehicles
  • Load, transport, and offload goods
  • Handle required documentation and perform ancillary duties
  • Carry out all reasonable instructions from the Supervisor
  • Work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required
  • Maintain a safe driving record and clean criminal record
  • Maintain the housekeeping of vehicles, uniforms, and PPE
  • Adhere to and promote SOPs and Safety Procedures
  • Successfully complete the following:
    • Medical evaluation
    • USCS training modules
    • Induction processes
    • Practical driving evaluation
    • Verification of a clean criminal record
  • Ensure the vehicle is not overloaded as per the National Road Traffic Act
  • Oversee or operate offloading equipment during the unloading process
  • Secure the load before departure
  • Open and close tarpaulins where applicable
  • Interact with customers in a professional and efficient manner
