About the Role
Wabtec South Africa is looking for a motivated and detail‑oriented Supply Chain Intern to support the Procurement function. This internship offers hands‑on experience in a manufacturing and engineering environment. You will work closely with the Senior Buyer and the wider Supply Chain team.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement Support
- Create and process purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
- Assist with supplier sourcing, request for quotations (RFQs), and price comparisons.
- Maintain supplier records and update procurement databases.
- Monitor supplier delivery performance and lead times.
- Follow up on outstanding purchase orders and deliveries.
- Supply Chain Operations
- Coordinate activities between procurement, stores, finance, and end users.
- Verify goods receipt and match documents.
- Track procurement spending against budgets.
- Monitor stock levels for consumables and indirect materials.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, ethics, and governance standards.
- Help prepare for audits by keeping documentation complete.
- Reporting & Administration
- Prepare basic procurement and supply chain reports.
- Capture and analyse data using Excel or ERP systems.
- Provide general administrative support to the Supply Chain team.
- Learning & Development
- Gain exposure to end‑to‑end procurement processes.
- Learn supplier management and basic negotiation skills.
- Understand manufacturing and engineering supply chains.
- Develop practical skills in ERP systems, reporting, and professional communication.

Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
- Basic understanding of procurement and supply chain principles.
- Good communication and organisational abilities.
Additional (Advantageous) Skills
- Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP.
- Knowledge of local supplier markets and sourcing practices.
